Chokeholds and Law Enforcement Officers
Chokeholds and Law Enforcement Officers
The Justice Department has announced that law enforcement officers will now be prohibited from using chokeholds during arrests. Law enforcement is additionally no longer able to carry out no-knock entries when executing warrants, with the exception of rare cases.
This is following multiple no-knock raids proving as an unnecessary threat to individual’s safety.
The Justice Department stated, “”the use of certain physical restraint techniques — namely chokeholds and carotid restraints — by some law enforcement agencies to incapacitate a resisting suspect has too often led to tragedy.”
